This weekend was a very social one - and it turned out to be much nicer than we expected. On Friday afternoon, an e-mail went out warning of torrential rain and heavy winds for the whole weekend, which would have been a bummer given all the plans we had.
On Friday night, we met up with some friends at an Indian restaurant where they have a buffet on Friday nights. It was a great way to unwind after a rather hectic week. By the end of dinner, however, the weather forecast seemed to be coming true as we began to have a wintry mix just before we had to walk home. Fortunately, it let up shortly thereafter so the walk wasn't bad.
Given that episode, I was expecting the first annual Turkey Trot to be rained out on Saturday, but we awoke to partly sunny skies so we headed on out to the embassy for the 5K 'race'. I put race in quotations because most people walked. Only about 4 of us really ran. I came in second - gotta start getting out there more often. The Turkey Trot was part of a bigger health fair at the embassy, so we got a free dental check-up as well as some exercise.
Saturday night, we were pleasantly surprised again as the rain held off while we went out to a party at a friend's house for some food, drink, and karaoke! The food was good, the drinks were strong enough that we were glad we left our car home, and the karaoke was a blast. Of course, I led with my signature 'Baby Got Back', but we also covered 'Friends in Low Places', No Rain, and 'Painted Black' among others. It was a lot of fun.
Wild Saturday nights tend to lead to lazy Sunday morning but when the rain still didn't come we went out to do some shopping before coming home to relax some more. Only now as I'm typing did the rain finally come. Looking forward to a shortened week with Thanksgiving on the way. I'm sure there will be stories for that as well.
Just in case anyone is still keeping count, we still can't drive out of our neighborhood like normal people, even though they've paved almost up to the farthest part of the road. I'm not sure what they're waiting for or how long it will be, but I'm getting used to driving on sidewalks. When in Dushanbe...
