Happy New (Fiscal) Year!

Ok, so I'm a little late with this update, but am pleased to announce that I've survived the end of the fiscal year. Despite software glitches, staff turnovers, and some unexpected events, we got it done, and did it well, if I may say so myself. All the while, I've been working on my performance evaluation, which has been complicated by the fact that my supervisor had to leave unexpectedly and by the new software that's supposed to make the process easier but accomplishes the opposite. Almost done with that too.

Unfortunately, the fact that I've been working about 12 hours a day for the last week and a half means I don't have a whole lot to share. But I do want to mention that we've discovered a new source of sushi in town and this time it's GOOD. One night, after working late, my counterpart in the finance office mentioned going out for sushi. Stephanie and I were a little wary given that our last experience was not pleasant, (fish not fresh, lots of mayonnaise). I'm glad we went against our better judgement. This time, the sushi was fresh, the portions of fish were generous, and best of all, it was delicious!

I even worked last weekend so not much happened there either, except that Stephanie and I tried out a new gelato place near us. It wasn't nearly as good as gelato in Italy, but still far better than the ice cream we usually find in the local market.

Given the busy work schedule, Stephanie and I had to be creative in celebrating our anniversary. We woke up early and cooked a big breakfast with bacon, eggs, and chocolate chip pancakes (thank goodness for our consumables shipment). Then, I was able to slip out of the office long enough to meet at the Hyatt for their lunch special, which was also nice. Since our procurement system stops recording new items at 5pm, Wednesday night (our anniversary) was our last chance to work late and we did. Stephanie and I will make up for it this weekend - we have plans to make a special dinner and go hiking.

That's really about it. But hopefully now that we've made it through, things will calm down enough that I can do more interesting things to write about.
